Spatial Video recording for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro MaxĪ new feature in iOS 17.2 allows iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max users to record Spatial Video. Apple writes that AirPlay Receiver allows you to stream or share content from your Vision Pro headset to your iPhone. The setting is called AirPlay Receiver and can be found under AirPlay & Handoff in Settings. While you can't buy the Vision Pro yet - Apple plans for the headset to be available in the US in early 2024 - iOS 17.2 introduces a setting to allow your iPhone to work as an additional screen for it. Sharing content between your iPhone and Apple Vision ProĪpple announced its Vision Pro headset at WWDC in June. The new function allows you to quickly translate phrases or have a conversation with someone in another language. With iOS 17.2, the iPhone 15 Pro's action button now has a translate function. ![]() In previous betas, this option was called Coverage.Īpple replaced the mute switch on the side of the iPhone 15 Pro with the action button. If you tap into this option, you'll see all of your devices that are or aren't covered under AppleCare or a warranty. In iOS 17.2, if you go to Settings > General you'll see a new option called AppleCare and Warranty. The screen says it will use songs from your library to curate songs for your Memories. If you go into the Photos app after updating to iOS 17.2, Photos will ask permission to access your Apple Music library. Here you can choose between a handful of haptic patterns, and you can create a custom haptic by tapping Create New Vibration. In the Default Alerts menu, you can also change your haptics by tapping Haptics near the top of the page. To change this sound, go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Default Alerts, and you'll be able to select new and classic tones. This is the first time Apple has allowed iPhone users to change the default notification sound. In iOS 17.2, Apple allows you to change the default notification sound. Only three options are available in each of these sections at this time, so Memoji isn't a full-on character creator menu as you'd see in a video game.Ĭhange your default notification sounds and haptics You can adjust your Memoji's waist, bust, shoulders and arms in this menu. In iOS 17.2, there's a new menu in the Memoji editor called Body that lets you edit the appearance of your Memoji's body. If you don't like this, you can turn the setting off by going to Settings > Music and tapping the toggle next to Add Favorite Songs. If you subscribe to Apple Music (which costs $11 a month) iOS 17.2 lets you automatically add songs you've favorited to your library. ![]() To react with a Live Sticker, long-press on a text like you would to add a reaction, then tap Add Sticker in the dropdown menu to pull up your stickers. In iOS 17.2, you can react to texts in Messages with your Live Stickers. The feature lets you create your own stickers from pictures you've taken. ![]() If you’re writing for a US broadcaster, you may need to structure your outline into five or six acts around ad breaks. ![]() So it is well worth reading your contract (if you have one) thoroughly before. In some cases, your contract will highlight broadcasting regulations that specify how long your acts can be. This will impact how many acts you will need in your story, so your original script may need some extra crafting. If your TV pilot is created for commercial television, you should consider ad breaks - in particular, the duration and frequency of these used by your chosen broadcaster. Finding and using the right structure is important as it will act as the foundation for the story, putting pillars in place to support the evolution of the story.īear in mind that your structure needs to work for you, but also for the requirements of the broadcaster producing your story. A 15-beat structure is a template that divides the beginning, middle and end of a story into 15 different plot points. Acts break the story up into plot points. You can structure your outline using three act structures, or a four or five-act structure, or even a 15-beat structure. DS Arnott’s arrival pulls the story in a new direction. Viewers begin to learn about the characters, their relationships, and the work environment through the lens of DS Arnott’s experience. The unit, its leader Ted Hastings, and the characters that work in this unit, all existed before DS Arnott arrives. Think about the first episode of Line of Duty, where we meet police officer DS Steve Arnot who is transferred to the anti-corruption police unit. ![]() This is where much of the world you’ve built pre-exists, but a new element is introduced. The hybrid pilot is a combination of the concept pilot and premise pilot. Premise pilots tend to work best for serial/mini-series shows (one storyline over a specific number of episodes). In the first episode, viewers are introduced to the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815, who are collectively part of a plane crash and end up on an island together. The pilot for the show Lost is a great example of this. ![]() The episode will introduce a setting, characters and an unexpected twist that will propel the story in a direction. You may have a group of disparate characters, who have never crossed paths, and they all become connected by an event. The premise-shaped pilot may introduce the events and characters as if they have never encountered each other before this moment. Line of Duty writer, Jed Mercurio, points out in his course, that Star Trek is the perfect example of this – where the viewer is plunged straight into a pre-existing world. This type of pilot introduces viewers to characters, their relationships with one another, and some of their goals, at the same time. It may be a concept pilot, a premise pilot, or a hybrid pilot.Ī concept pilot is where you introduce the characters and settings as if they pre-existed. To create your script you will need to consider the shape your pilot will take. “Executives want to hear new ideas from new writers, new worlds to explore, new characters we haven’t seen before,” Jed Mercurio explains, in his BBC Maestro screenwriting course. A pilot episode sets the premise for your show or series, and introduces the storyline, your characters and the setting.Ī good pilot episode is particularly exciting for production companies and broadcasters because they are constantly on the lookout for new stories and talent to bring to the screens. Screenwriters will write their pilot script and then pitch it to television broadcasters or production companies, in hope that they will love it, strike a deal, and produce the rest of the series. When writing your TV pilot you must try to pique the interests of viewers and leave them desperate for more. The pilot episode is the most important of your series because it’s your one shot to bring your vision to life. A pilot is the first episode of your series. There is a common practice, especially on college campuses, of mixing energy drinks with alcohol. Caffeine intensifies anxiety, and is also associated with digestive problems, insomnia, heart palpitations, and elevated blood pressure.ĥ. Heavy caffeine use can lead to dehydration in athletes who do not adequately compensate with other fluids.Ĥ. Some brands contain upward of 500 mg in a single can.ģ. Recall that the most popular energy drinks contain between 150–280 mg per SERVING. Notably, caffeine withdrawal symptoms have been reported in school-age children who drank as little as 120–145 mg of caffeine per day over a 2-week period. The effects of caffeine can be significant. ![]() Adolescents who drink an abundance of energy drinks may be at risk for obesity and dental caries, given the significant amount of sugar (and calories).Ģ. There are several reasons that regular consumption of energy drinks is a concern. That’s an interesting, and perhaps alarming, difference.ĪLCOHOL – Some of the most popular energy drinks are manufactured with alcohol – yikes! More on this later, but you should know that the alcohol-containing version of many energy drinks is less expensive than the non-alcohol-containing counterparts. They do, however, regulate the sale of over-the-counter-caffeine-containing drugs that may contain up to 100–200 mg of caffeine. The FDA doesn’t regulate the amount of caffeine in energy drinks or cold coffee beverages. There is evidence, however, to link it to insomnia, heart palpitations, and headaches.ĬAFFEINE – Rarely listed as an ingredient, most all of the top-selling energy drinks contain more than their fair share of caffeine, often hidden under the cryptic-sounding label, “proprietary blend.” The most popular brands contain from 150–280 mg of caffeine per can - the equivalent of two to three cups of coffee. Claims are that ginseng improves athletic performance, improves mood, and energizes the immune system, but there is little evidence that it does any of these things to a significant degree. GINSENG – A root most commonly found in East Asia. The amount of taurine that would be consumed with regular intake of energy drinks is far more than the amount in a normal diet, but there is little evidence of adverse effects. ![]() TAURINE – An amino acid that our body manufactures on its own from other amino acids. Guarana hasn’t been evaluated by the FDA for safety, effectiveness, or purity. GUARANA – A South American plant, also known as Brazilian cocoa. Here’s a breakdown of the primary ingredients: Other additives that claim to do things like “reduce the risk of cancer” and “prevent diabetes” are often present, but those claims are unsupported by science. In addition to sugar, most energy drinks contain the same basic list of ingredients that include, guarana, taurine, ginseng and B vitamins. ![]() ![]() Energy drinks generally contain sugar - in the form of sucrose, glucose, or high fructose corn syrup, with 21–34 grams of sugar per eight ounce serving. You might consider them “enhanced” sports drinks in some ways. It’s not the same as a sports beverage, like Gatorade, or Powerade. If you’re not familiar with them, it’s time to get familiar with them, because these drinks are marketed to our teenage and college-age children - and, more recently, women and youths - and there are definite risks that we (parents), and our children. While these are just a few of the most popular, there are many more over 200 new brands were introduced in 2006 alone. They’re beverages - more specifically, energy drinks. This tallying frame is capable of performing wonders beyond its humble looks! Understanding the abacus kit is much simpler than you can imagine. This continues along the left-hand side of the abacus kit, with increasing place values. This increases leftwards with the place values, accordingly. Yes, the beads in the lower deck carry a value of 1 and the bead in the upper deck carries a value of 5. After the bead in the upper deck is used, the result is carried to the next column as 10. Post counting 4 in the lower deck, the result is carried on as 5 in the upper deck. Gently slide a bead from the one’s column lower deck to the answering bar, this value counts to one. Earthly beads are the beads in the lower deck. The beads in the upper deck are called the Heavenly beads. The beads are considered as counted when they are moved towards the bar that separates the decks. Hence, this is done to set the number value in the abacus kit as zero. It also marks the beginning of a new arithmetic problem. Secondly, Clearing all the beads away from the central beam ensures clarity in the calculation. Mounting the device flat on the table is done by sliding the thumb and the index finger along the beam. To begin with, this is the preparatory stage to initiate any kind of calculation using the abacus. The 5:2 Suanpan Abacus is still in usage in Hong Kong schools, as a part of cultural preservation. The modern and most-refined version of Suanpan consisted of 4+1 beads, a position indicator, and a clear-all button for zeroing. Because, it had an empty rod, indicating zero. The Chinese used Suanpan for decimal numbers. The Roman abacus influenced the design of the Chinese Abacus. The Chinese referred to Abacus using a variety of names like Supan, Jusan, and Jupan. It was designed in such a way to calculate up to limitless precision The Chinese call it the 2:5 abacus, based on its structure. Typically made of hardwood, the Suanpan abacus was 20 cms long. Since then, they have started using it as the main mode of calculations. That is when the Chinese termed abacus as the “ball arithmetic”. Undoubtedly, It was widespread towards the end of the 16th century. The Modern numbering system was based on Hindu-Arabic mathematics. ![]() It was eventually a failure because of its construction. However, this invention was quite a complication to the calculations since it had two beads on the upper deck. The ancient Chinese abacus, called SUANPAN, was developed in the twelfth century and did not attain fame till the fourteenth century. As time passed by, with the advent of modern technologies, the Romans switched to micro calculators in 1974. ![]() The lower grooves marked the place value from tens to millions. The beads in the upper groove marked the place value of fives. The last two columns were used for the Roman mixed- base math. On the other hand, the lower ones had four beads. Their Abacus kit consisted of seven long and shorter grooves. Also, they called the counting board Calculi. The Romans used Abacus to calculate, by using the Roman numerals. The rows represented the place value of numbers accordingly. ![]() Types of Romanian AbacusĪlso, the Romans invented three different types of the abacus. ![]() It was a stone table with movable stones sliding up and down. Romans developed an easier way to use the abacus called the ‘Roman Hand Abacus’. This description gave rise to the Greek word ‘ABAX’ from which abacus sourced its etymology.Īs time passed, numbers and calculations emerged as a vital part of trade and commerce. The earliest form of abacus was a reckoning table covered with sand or fine dust, in which fingers were drawn using a stylus, and erased with the same, when necessary. However, there are no facts that support the confirmed statement about the invention of the abacus. The design of abacus kits remains to be in a combination of rods and pebbles. Time, people and technology improved the abacus. As time passed by, the design of an abacus kit has widely varied in terms of style, size and material. Countries like Taiwan, Korea, Malaysia and Japan were smitten by the abacus fever. Meanwhile, the abundant fame of success for abacus began to spread. Historians believe it was the Chinese minds who invented the Abacus around 500BC. Besides, it has its share of evolution in terms of design and usage. Abacus is a man-made calculating device invented 5000 years ago. ![]() ![]() Snap-on F80 Ratchet, Sealed Head, Dual 80? Genetic testing for the i(12p) chromosomal abnormality, a finding consistent in GCT but rarely in other tumors, may be helpful in cases with diagnostic uncertainty. Core needle biopsy or, when appropriate, surgical biopsy, typically via anterior mediastinotomy (Chamberlain procedure), will assist in establishing the diagnosis of GCT which can mimic poorly differentiated carcinoma ( 6). The pathologic discrepancy between histology and fine-needle aspiration (FNA) is 6%. We recommend histologic diagnosis once positive tumor markers are obtained. Teratoma with elevated tumor markers should be treated similarly to NSGCTs with neoadjuvant VIP and potential for post-chemotherapy surgical resection. ![]() Mature teratoma with normal tumor markers should be surgically resected with no role for chemotherapy or radiation even in incomplete resection. ![]() With a histologic diagnosis of pure seminoma and the absence of tumor marker elevation, chemotherapy with (BEP) provides an excellent prognosis without surgical resection. Patients with normal tumor markers should have biopsy of their mass. Of note, bleomycin is toxic to the lungs. Chemotherapy with etoposide (VP-16), ifosfamide, and cisplatin (VIP) is preferred over bleomycin, etoposide, and cisplatin (BEP) to spare pulmonary complications in these patients who often require extensive surgical resection. Some institutions treat any anterior mediastinal mass with β-HCG >1,000 and/or any elevation in AFP as a confirmed primary NSGCT ( 5). In mature teratomas, the markers are normal ( 2). Elevated serum AFP is not seen with pure seminomas and is an indication that yolk sac tumor and embryonal cell carcinoma is present in the primary or in a metastatic site. The elevation of any nonseminomatous tumor marker, even in a tumor with predominantly seminomatous histology, is classified and treated as a NSGCT. Patients may have elevation of both AFP and β-HCG or either marker in isolation ( 3, 4). In younger male patients, high β-HCG can lead to gynecomastia. Tumor marker elevation is seen in a majority of patients with AFP increased in 80% of NSGCTs and β-HCG in 30% to 35%. Mediastinal NSGCTs can be accompanied by hematological disease including megakaryocytic leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, refractory thrombocytopenia, or refractory anemia. We describe the work up and crucial preoperative considerations, various incisions and their applications to tumor size and location, and resectable structures and factors to consider in their removal.įigure 3 Histologic types of germ cell tumors. Appropriate pre-surgical planning, positioning, approach, exposure, and intraoperative decision making are all integral to successful resection. Surgery can be challenging due to tumor size, location, and adherence to important structures. These typically anterior tumors can be found adjacent to and invading any of the major mediastinal vessels, nerves, lung, and hila. The remaining nonseminomatous germ cell tumors are treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy and post-chemotherapy resection regardless of tumor marker persistence. Pure mediastinal seminomas are usually curable with chemotherapy alone, while mature teratomas are treated with surgery alone. ![]() Chemotherapy and/or surgery is the mainstay of treatment of these primary mediastinal germ cell tumors.
